California crop circle revealed as marketing stunt

Last month a mysterious crop circle in California went viral on the internet. It generated interest after anonymous calls were placed to local TV stations. But, of course, it was not created by aliens. Instead, it was a marketing ploy hatched by NVIDIA to promote their newest microprocessor. They admitted to it during the Consumer Electronics Show in Los Vegas and said clues in Braille symbols were included in the crop circle to reveal its origin.

The almost ubiquitous order to switch off cell phones in the theater may be changing, if a new group of advertisers have their way. Cinime is a new movie related app designed to interact with sounds produced on the screen that allows users to interface with the movie. The concept is being test piloted in Britain now, and only during the previews, but other companies, such as Disney, have toyed with the idea of app use during the feature.

Movies, toys and marketing

This offering suggests a difference in the appropriate age groups for viewing a movie and for buying the toys related to the movies. It discusses that for some, PG-13 movies and the toys target a younger age group like 6 year olds for whom the movie is actually inappropriate.One suggestion is to make versions of the movie targeting both age groups. I would think this infeasible. Or targeting the movie for the toy appropriate G age group, making up for lost ticket sales with increased toy sales. Again probably infeasible at least for the movie industry side of the relationship.

Nvidia crop circle marketing stunt gets attention

Recent reports of a crop circle appearing in California field are really just free advertisements for NVIDIA, a computer chip and graphics card manufacturer. NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang was forced to admit to the scheme when participants arriving for the Consumer Electronics Show in Los Vegas noted that Braille numbers imbedded in the design were related to the 192 cores in NVIDIA’s K1 chip.
