True marketing is the ability to uncover the unmet wants and needs of the consumer. We explore the real meaning of the word “marketing” and laments that what is often described as marketing is often just a sales pitch. Curiosity about the wants and needs of the consumer is at the heart of successful marketing but is often overlooked in favor of promoting ones product or idea as it is without first getting to the heart of who the customer is and what he or she needs.
