Oil paintings done as ads in the 1930s through the 1950s that had been rejected by the Guinness brewing company are now highly prized collector’s items. The paintings, done by artist John Gilroy were completed in oil paint after pencil sketches, were presented to the brewing company and when they were rejected they were rolled up and placed in storage. A single collector bought them all in the 1970s and they are slowing making their way into the open market.
