Under a new proposal set forth by the state Supreme Judicial Court, personal injury lawyers may need to revise their advertising practices. Notable payouts listed on websites would need to include more detailed information, including if the payouts are from jury verdicts or if the payout was obtained by an out of court settlement. Law firms that that refer cases to other firms would need to disclose that fact to consumers, as the law firms receive as much as one third of payout with little to no work involved.
